What will this day hold??? (One Shot Poetry)
On this day
I am faced
with a barrage
of questions …
Who is that in the mirror?
How can it be?
How did I get here?
Is the little girl a woman now??
I was in a dream
dressed in white
long dark hair
on top of my head
I wore a veil
the scent of flowers
wafted in the breeze
***
A man was there
looked into my eyes
his smile took my fears away
our hands
were joined
***
I turn from the girl
face the man
We say
“I do”
**
My questions are answered
The girl is no more
the woman is held close
in the arms of the man
she loves.

This is very precious! Always something beautiful in the lovers’ hearts that makes the soul feel a sense of forever. Lovely marriage of the minds Leslie…..and that smile that wishes for the characters a long, long….forever lasting love.

That was beautiful Leslie, I loved “The girl is no more, the woman is held close in the arms of the man she loves. So many promised on that day and wonderful when happiness and love remains. Loved it xx Great One Shot!!

The transition is so innocently abrupt isn’t it? Probably because there is no possible way we could ever really know exactly what it is we are getting ourselves into…
I liked the movement from girl to woman. – well done
September 7, 2010 at 2:05 pm
It’s true isn’t it. Right of passage can be abrupt
September 7, 2010 at 2:59 pm
a poetic rite of passage from being a girl to a woman…all through the mirror. how much we can reflect if we truly look
This is a beautiful poem
September 8, 2010 at 8:00 am
pretty self explanatory rite of passage
September 8, 2010 at 9:50 am
Lovely words. Excellent.
September 7, 2010 at 2:11 pm
Okay, that first pic looks a little like someone I know and it’s freaking me out a little. lol “I wore a veil / the scent of flowers / wafted in the breeze” Nice sound to all the lines; those especially. That second picture is amazing, even the way the tree frames the right part of it. Thanks for hosting, Moon. You rock!
September 7, 2010 at 2:33 pm
Well I know she lives in Ukraine – does that help
September 7, 2010 at 2:58 pm
Oh Wow! How beautiful!
September 7, 2010 at 2:33 pm
I like the coming of age theme…when does it happen? Is there a moment any of us can point to? Now I have to ponder that for a while!
September 7, 2010 at 2:46 pm
a fantastic start to One Shot..how that took my mind back..the day i married is still up their as one of the best days of my life…great poem too…cheers pete
September 7, 2010 at 3:04 pm
You really captured the passing of time very well, excellent post
September 7, 2010 at 3:08 pm
You capture nicely that “turning” when we leave a life before entirely and accept a new one without even realizing entirely what it means. We only know we are following our hearts into another reality. Thanks. Gay
September 7, 2010 at 3:23 pm
There will always be a little of the girl inside.

September 7, 2010 at 4:08 pm
I loved the reflective look in the bride’s countenance “wonder what she’s thinking?”
September 7, 2010 at 4:31 pm
Very touching.
September 7, 2010 at 4:11 pm
Always encouraging thanks MM
September 7, 2010 at 4:33 pm
Few words and yet they move so much within me. Your opening lines, that recognition and yet slight disbelief of ‘Where did time go?” Your poems are always a joy to read! xoxo
September 7, 2010 at 5:17 pm
And time continues…now when I look in the mirror that little girl is long gone, and I think I see my mother!
September 7, 2010 at 6:50 pm
What a true to life poem. We’ve all wondered where the years have flown (some have lost a few more years than others), and you do a great job of capturing this. The pictures are perfect!
Mine is here. http://razzamadazzle.wordpress.com/2010/09/07/bling/

Hey there girl!
(Or should I say woman?)
Nice work. I really liked the feel. I would definitely keep the girl and don’t lose her, but I think the first stanza needs some work. However, the poem really picked up after that.
Well done.
September 7, 2010 at 7:11 pm
Thanks Joshua – felt that when I put it together – tightened that up a bit
September 8, 2010 at 10:21 am

September 8, 2010 at 10:03 am
I love the last stanza. So beautiful!
September 7, 2010 at 7:50 pm
I like how you weave the words and the images. And the whole idea of time shifting. Nice one, Lesley.
September 7, 2010 at 8:13 pm
This was lovely, Leslie. Soft and with a beautiful flow. And your friend’s photography is wonderful.
September 7, 2010 at 9:06 pm
thanks my sweet friend
September 8, 2010 at 10:02 am
“Who is that in the mirror”, one question
such spider webs it sends through my mind
September 7, 2010 at 11:23 pm
Oooo thats a little creepy
September 8, 2010 at 10:02 am
Oh sweet moon so touched how she moved from her self assessment of being just a girl to a woman who was in a marriage or stable relationship in his sweet arms. Fantastic words and so beautiful as was your image suited the poem. Thanks for sharing with oneshot too~
September 8, 2010 at 2:19 am
Thanks for enjoying
September 8, 2010 at 10:01 am
I enjoyed the poem, although I have to say, you might want to watch for passive verbs. Writing more fiction and less poetry these days, I flinch a little at “is held close”.
Otherwise, good one shot.
September 8, 2010 at 4:56 am
well this isn’t a novel
September 8, 2010 at 9:59 am
Who is that in the mirror?
now there is a question iv asked myself a time or two in the past
nicely written and covered the question so well
really enjoyed the read ty
September 8, 2010 at 6:18 am
I guess if the mirror answers then we need to wonder
September 8, 2010 at 10:20 am
simple and very nice like it
September 8, 2010 at 6:35 am
simple is good – thanks Ibrahim
September 8, 2010 at 10:20 am
Nice summary of the transition from girl to woman. Certainly there are a lot of intermediate steps in our journeys, but sometimes the trip seems impossible brief.
September 8, 2010 at 7:16 am
I would have to agree the time is brief
September 8, 2010 at 9:58 am
Once I started reading this……I kept reading and found myself sucked right on in…..Love the pic, as well….. Nice post!
September 8, 2010 at 8:51 am
awww Thanks Sara – I love the pic
September 8, 2010 at 9:50 am
Lovely poem and picture, Moon-Girl. It happens so quickly, doesn’t it? I have a picture of myself in a strapless prom dress, leaning in to a mirror to powder my nose. I look at that young girl and wonder, who the hell is that?
September 8, 2010 at 9:15 am
it goes too quickly doesn’t it -ha
September 8, 2010 at 9:44 am
Each turn a road we won’t go down or visit again…Thanks for dropping by. My poem is here. Hope your week goes well.
September 8, 2010 at 10:26 am
The write and pic compliments one another…very nice
September 8, 2010 at 10:32 am
Oooohhh… this was neat!! How we change (at least outwardly)!
And then, so do our dreams and thoughts… growing with us, sometime shrinking..But always changing.. the crux remains the same nonetheless.
Lovely images, and a very warm poem… I could totally relate to it myself… Nicely played, Moon!
Bravo!
September 8, 2010 at 11:19 am
I feel that way quite often. Beautifully written.
September 8, 2010 at 11:44 am
Beautiful poem. How time does fly so quickly. I loved how the future woman looks back upon the little girls life.
September 8, 2010 at 4:56 pm
A perfect answer to her questions. Well said. Thanks for sharing.
heartspell
September 8, 2010 at 9:31 pm
glad you are back
September 9, 2010 at 11:06 pm
Very sweetly done. I read it, fearing a sharp, painful punchline at the end, but was delighted in finding none. Marriage is like that, yes. Transitions seem to complete before we realize they have begun.
September 11, 2010 at 9:12 am
thanks Bill – no this one I wrote straight – It was a beautiful day for this couple
