absence

nothing

love less

thought less

faith less

your eyes revealed…

… nothing years ago

I felt

pain less

wreck less

FREE

since I gouged them out

I closed my eyes to shut out raw pain

rejection grazed my heart like a spear

coming too close and spurting the last feeling

I closed my heart a barren shield

dont ask me to ever love again

I’ve felt the cold sting of steel

the remnants of my heart are on your blade

I opened my eyes and I saw clarity

awaken me from this dream

give me a clear vision

opening my eyes I feel a kiss

something I had for so long missed

a longing for the warmth

the one who had waited in my dreams

A light pierced  the fog

“come to shelter “

turning  toward darkness

my arms grew weary

groping in a  mist of confusion

“come this way”

“but there is nothing to light the way”

changing direction

my feet stumble on a root

the cliff just inches behind me

slipping toward the edge…

I’m sorry I missed the first part of this prompt but I will attempt to hang the reader off the cliff for Jenny Matlock’s Centus Saturday

Telling me stories about the ship that had sunk in the stormy sea

“All were lost”

you said with a tear on your cheek

I never knew you never told me

All had not been lost

A small boy and his scruffy dog had floated into the bay

A fisherman and his wife found the two survivors and raised them as their own

One day you went out to sea looking for something you had lost

You never told me what you were seeking

“All were lost”

I carved into  broken wood

A piece of flotsam where we will never sit again

“Please take me out to sea faithful tide

where I can be joined with the one

I have lost…”

It looked back at me

from an earlier time

Who is she?

The lips curled in a familiar smile

It was not so long ago

that we shared this face

come on a journey

with your fingers trace

Little ones holding hands

laughter filling the air

never put away

the love that you freely shared

 This was a practice piece for a portrait my mother did of my son and I.

 Memories fill the air when you look back on the past and who you once were.

***To those of you who are faithful friends and writers – please forgive my absence over the past several months. I am in the midst of a major change. I am enjoying the life of a transient and though my writing abounds my time when a computer is available does not.

A ball will fall

Happy- my lips will linger on

one who offers me

a dance

caring little for what I wear

what matters

the heat on our breath

 New is our tango

lower me to the ground

smell my eau de chaud

I  taste your latte

This Year

come in alone

but leave…

and as we see another year out an applause of thanks is given to Mr Know it All who manages to host a fantastic Flash Fiction every Friday and has done so for more than 4 years. Happy 2012 to All!!!

Do you realize

that some of us

eat food from a can?

No not the kind you open

the kind you pull refuse

with your hand

I didn’t chose

cold loneliness

a life of no address

a closet in my car

atop my  college degree

oh isnt life a mess

but who cares

do you want to see

the list of things I’ve done

the families, children

whom I’ve helped

yes I have  aided some

the system I promise doesn’t care

I’m a number

they’d wish they’d lost

I’ve paid so many dues

there’s nothing left

oh dear what  this has cost

and so my friends

words it seems

are all that I have left

stories and verse

I hold so close

I’ll steer clear of bereft

Seeking for your memories

oh so hard to find

what corner do I look in?

what treasures in my mind?

I’ve lost so many memories

from a far and distant time

beautiful and simple world

many things left  behind

Running for a street car

bustle to and fro

“you are so like her

we just thought you should know”

Cheerful with a helping hand

this woman in my heart

you left me ohh too soon

for I’d barely had my start

Thinking back of Christmases

you’re in each and every one

bright colors and heavenly smells

I miss those years our fun

Grandma dear I’ll ner forget

the gifts you gave this child

I cradle them in my heart

I’ll always wear your smile

The Stars are brightly shining

The moonlight is catching the tears on my cheek darling

It is the Night

Of our Dear Savior’s Birth

Long lay the world

The News isn’t good dear

In Sin and error pining

it’s spread through my entire body

til He appeared and the soul felt its worth

I have three or four weeks

the thrill of hope

the weary world rejoices

for yonder  breaks a new and glorious light

my love will be a distant star

Fall on your knees

I have no strength to stand

Oh hear the angels voices

I will be singing with the angels next Christmas darling

oh night divine

tonight we have each other

oh night when Christ was born

Gingerbread and shortbread in the oven

Pine from the tree

Spices of  hot cider congealing

Seasoned wood on the fire

Bing Crosby singing with his smooth as scotch voice

Our Family gathered enjoying being together
