“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Pablo Picasso

august 2013 207

Behold art

through artist’s eyes

hold your breath

there’s no disguise

*

imagination

will you see

at  water’s edge

you’ll be set free

*

A fanciful place

to lose oneself

catch a wave

you’ll need no help

*

dust away mundane

look deep inside

a hidden world

rides on the tide

*

lost you art?

you sorry soul

without it’s depth

you won’t be whole

*

grasp its tail

come with me

ride a notion

in the artist’s sea

Whether a connoisseur of art, a dabbler, a master, you might agree that to “lose art” would result in a mundane and less colorful existence.

Today’s assignment at Verse First:

Consider loss, losing, art, and their meanings for you. Then write a 6- stanza poem that contains at least two rhyme schemes. Lost? Read the poem again, identify the rhymes and give it a try.

Thank you for visiting Moondustwriter. In 2019, we have an exciting project. We are developing elementary curriculum for Ugandan children. As a writer, it is a thrill to help children who want to learn. Along with the curriculum, we hope to develop simple fictions about Uganda for the children to read at school. Trust me books are in short supply. We will use our trusted story tellers: a butterfly and a lion to make the stories come alive. Stay tuned as Bethany and Me put pen to paper. I've been part of the blogging community for more than 10 years. Some old timers may remember the award winning (2012 Twitter Shorty ) blog community - One Stop Poetry. I was the (quiet) originator of the idea and co-producer of One Stop Poetry. I am a published writer, poet, artist and photographer. I have written, as well as edited, for periodicals, radio, blogs and fellow writers. There are many facets to this moon - thanks for stopping by.

  1. Leslie, you have focused your poem at my very favourite and most inspirational place in the world – the ocean. Sigh. So lovely. I love the invitation at the end……art is the one area left the government cant tax or legislate away. Loved your comment on my poem about the postal service. I’m like your mom – the mail is a highlight of my day, always has been. Sigh.

    1. this to her she tried to say it was a different cmoapny, but when I said it was the same she gave Blue Chips address as being a sister co. and offered to add on my payment to the money she was going to give me for my timeshare. When I refused to give her any money she asked what I wanted to do. I said when the courier comes for the contract to fetch me a cheque. She has gone to talk to her manager. I am still waiting for her to call back ha ha.
