Alive with Poetry and the letter “A” #atozchallenge #poetry #photography

letter a

a light a stir

little could we manage to muster

winds pink, breezy and blustered

being under spring’s spell

we flurried and fell

into a whirling white well

” Poetry’s task is to reconcile us to the world — not to accept it at face value or to assent to things that are wrong, but to reconcile one in a larger sense, to return us in love, the province of the imagination, to the scope of our mortal lives.” Meena Alexander

alliteration: th is a poetic device using repetition of an initial consonant sound, as in “a peck of pickled peppers.” (Poets.Org)

Do you agree that poetry has the power to reconcile, albeit restore us to life?????

Today starts day #1 with the April A to Z Challenge. It looks like this year promises to have opportunities like a twitter chat on Thursdays. Looking for inspiration, new followers??? Check out A to Z

My focus this year is pretty relaxed as I have been disabled in both wrists. I enjoyed looking to nature (primarily) and photography (secondary) for letters for each day accompanied by a simple poem, a famous quote and a tidbit about poetic form, device etc.

Some A to Zers that I am enjoying following:

Thank you for visiting Moondustwriter. In 2019, we have an exciting project. We are developing elementary curriculum for Ugandan children. As a writer, it is a thrill to help children who want to learn. Along with the curriculum, we hope to develop simple fictions about Uganda for the children to read at school. Trust me books are in short supply. We will use our trusted story tellers: a butterfly and a lion to make the stories come alive. Stay tuned as Bethany and Me put pen to paper. I've been part of the blogging community for more than 10 years. Some old timers may remember the award winning (2012 Twitter Shorty ) blog community - One Stop Poetry. I was the (quiet) originator of the idea and co-producer of One Stop Poetry. I am a published writer, poet, artist and photographer. I have written, as well as edited, for periodicals, radio, blogs and fellow writers. There are many facets to this moon - thanks for stopping by.

  1. Dear Leslie,
I always loved poetry,I listened to my brothers when they recited it I was not old enough to read myself, but i loved the rhythm ,something about it gave me joy, having written all this i clearly cannot define poetry, I just love to read it in my language and English and Urdu.
    Thank you Leslie

  2. By all means poetry can restore us to life! There is a music with these styles of written word. I feel each style of writing has a certain reverberation, but there something particularly lyrical about poetry. I may not always fully understand what a poem is about but I know the resonance I’ve felt when at least some part of my soul has understood, and there are times that is enough. Love this!

  3. Awww…thanks for the shout out! I am honored!

Alliteration is one of my favorite forms of poetic device. Seriously. It shows up a lot in what I write. I love the picture. So much going on. My mind immediately started making up snippets of stories to go along with it. Wonderful poem as well! It made me think of spring like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon, tentatively at first, then in full riot…and it made my soul smile. Thank you!
