Today I am taking an A to Z challenge  break from (fictionally) killing people  so I can tell you about a project that is near and dear to my heart:

I am sharing a concern I have for the over 10,000 children orphaned by Ebola. Those are reported numbers; the numbers are higher.

Have you read about the sadness, the sorrow, the situation of children being shunned by family and society for fear they might contract Ebola, orphans shut in a room or hut (in quarantine) for 40 days  perhaps food is thrown in the window? Most of the relief money has been used for things other than the children.  If you read any of Liberia’s news, they were in financial straights before – their children are begging for assistance (for each other) because they have few advocates.

I am in the process of compiling a book of poetry called Song for Liberia. The book is a chorus of poems / haiku given as a gift by some very talented poets. The photographer Nick Fraser is sharing shots of Liberia for this project.

The wonderful thing is all of the money we raise (aside from what Amazon takes) will go directly to the needs of the children. The publisher has graciously waived their cut.

The book will be coming out in the summer – WHAT CAN YOU DO?

  • Your promotion of the project / the book would add to the chorus of love for these children (via Facebook, Twitter, your blog)
  • An article on your blog about the project would help spread the word
  • submit a poem
  • we will be selling t-shirts, coffee cups
  • do a hand spring or two…

If you are interested in helping in any way, please leave a comment in the comment box or an email at

A to Z folks I am visiting today:

Published by moondustwriter

Thank you for visiting Moondustwriter. One of the many exciting things I've had the honor of doing is writing with an E. African team that is developing elementary curriculum for African children. As a writer, it is a thrill to help children (on all continents) who want to learn. I've been part of the blogging community for more than 10 years. Some old timers may remember the award winning (2011 Twitter Shorty ) blog community - One Stop Poetry. I was the co-producer of that fast growing blog community. I am a published writer, poet, artist and photographer. I have written, as well as edited, for periodicals, radio, blogs and fellow writers. There are many facets to this moon - thanks for stopping by.
