Sacrifice of Innocence #poetry #thehumancondition

little girl

Innocent eyes

gaping in reason’s hull

streaming evil’s lies

young blood curdles

to the screech of the gull

*

her eyes plead for mercy

reflect obsidian guise

down on her knees

cool, the predator circles

strong heart apprise

*

besieged, rise the call

shout the clarion horn

lamb led to slaughter

guileless  purity’s beauty

by deceit’s knife she’s shorn

The prompt this week at Poet’s United Midweek Motif is Predator / Prey. An interesting challenge to be sure.

Thank you for visiting Moondustwriter. One of the many exciting things I've had the honor of doing is writing with an E. African team that is developing elementary curriculum for African children. As a writer, it is a thrill to help children (on all continents) who want to learn. I've been part of the blogging community for more than 10 years. Some old timers may remember the award winning (2011 Twitter Shorty ) blog community - One Stop Poetry. I was the co-producer of that fast growing blog community. I am a published writer, poet, artist and photographer. I have written, as well as edited, for periodicals, radio, blogs and fellow writers. There are many facets to this moon - thanks for stopping by.

  1. I think you have created a unique response to the challenge – the image and words so loud and scared in their matte silence.. innocence lost is the cruellest blow and yet it also creates many a warrior..ones who in time may pick up a pen..rather than a knife

  2. Sadly this is so real for it happens everywhere in the world and perpetrators are often deemed unfit to answer charges and are released but a few years later as cured!

  3. __ She was three years old, a beautiful blue eyed blond… hopping, smiling, laughing, and having a great time as she grocery shopped with her mom; nothing wrong with that pretty little girl. I stepped forward to congratulate her mom, for the use of a harness and leash to guard her child. Mom said: ‘Thanks, it only takes a split second for harm to occur, and to face such a terrific loss. Selfishly, I hold this link for support, and to keep her close. It’s my love and care for my little girl’s safer life. All people can say I’m wrong to teather her, but neither of us care.’ The little blond girl squeeked ‘bye,’ and hopped toward tomorrow.

  4. A chilling poem about something that tragically happens all too often nowadays, Leslie. It’s a pity we now live in such a world where we have to take such inordinate care to protect the innocent.
