Time Goes Too Fast #elderlyissues #atozchallenge #photography #poetry

moves as the sun

faster than we run

a round face with hands

a circular plan

each hour marked

never light never dark

moves without thinking

heart beat quickly ticking

a baby’s yawn

before early dawn

colors beam

 day on one side

ebbs the flow of the tide

aging woman, man

Takes their time to stand

there’s no rush

someone’s sleeping – hush

t i m e

it’s moving fast

history is past

chest more slowly rise

look into her eyes

one last breath

hands  at rest

Santa Barbara bay

I think everyone would agree that the older we get the faster the hands of time seem to move.

Maybe one thing we can do is slow those hands down a wee bit.

Going back into the memory file is a great way to stop time for a moment.

I love reliving moments with friends and family – it’s always a history lesson and most everyone likes to talk about the past.

How is time affecting you right now with Covid???

Thank you for visiting Moondustwriter. One of the many exciting things I've had the honor of doing is writing with an E. African team that is developing elementary curriculum for African children. As a writer, it is a thrill to help children (on all continents) who want to learn. I've been part of the blogging community for more than 10 years. Some old timers may remember the award winning (2011 Twitter Shorty ) blog community - One Stop Poetry. I was the co-producer of that fast growing blog community. I am a published writer, poet, artist and photographer. I have written, as well as edited, for periodicals, radio, blogs and fellow writers. There are many facets to this moon - thanks for stopping by.

  1. Lovely poem, Leslie. I really liked the line ‘never light never dark’. That makes me think of time still going on and on no matter the time of the day, no matter where the world is at. It’s an interetsing thought you present there, time going faster as we get older. I think as we get older we tend to get stuck in our routines, so the days chug along monotonously and before we know it, we’ve made another round around the sun.

For me, time now in Australia seems to be alright. Although it’s more time indoors for me, I try to do something different each day, perhaps one day crochet, one day work, another day writing 🙂 Take care of yourself and stay safe 🙂

    1. Dear Mabel
I am always excited to hear from you. So good to hear that you are doing well. There is a benefit to slowing the clock down as we are able to catch up with projects or start new ones.
      Be well my friend

      1. I’m also always excited to hear from you, and hearing of the work you do – poetry and in Uganda – was what drew me to your work in the first place. Here’s to more slowing down and hope you get to work on the projects you want. Stay safe.

  2. Terrific poem ~ I think with being in quarantine it’s made me so much more reflective of the past. I’ve been finishing abandoned projects and completing ones I always wanted to start. I’ve been giving myself time to read and exercise more too. Not spending so much time driving my car has given me lot’s more time to just be and I’ve enjoyed that. Blessings to you!

  3. Our paths must have crossed in your 10 years? I’m in my 9th and never imagined I’d be saying that. 🙂 🙂 It’s a good poem. Though that’s not my medium, I can still appreciate. Somewhere along the line I joined the A-Z Challenge too- once relating to Portugal, the other to my Polish ancestry. Most days I’m at peace with myself. Some I’m full of angst. Mostly for my kids. Normal I guess. Take care!
