Look Up #poetry #devotion

wright

They looked up to the sky

wondering how the birds might

Men in their minds worked

puzzling over to flight

Time after time they tried

always another glitch

falling apart at the seams

so unlike the finch

trials they persevered

eager to gain height

broken bones and wings

brothers were named Wright

higher and higher we fly

looking beyond the loon

forging a further frontier

what marvel to walk on the moon

***

It took commitment (day in and day out) for men who wanted to fly to build that dream. It takes (daily) commitment, a focus forward, and stamina to strive toward a relationship with our God.

“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.”

Philippians 3:13

A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM. ~Edgar Allen Poe

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow—
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand—
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep—while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

********

Grasping at hope

sea pulls at all I hold dear

your kiss still warm

*

tears at great cost

dark dreams possess my heart

you are gone

To the Future and Back Again #poetry #childhood #dpchallenge

magical book

When as a child

where did dreams with you fly?

did you ride dragons

were you a double agent spy?

*

Did the Orient Express

carry you in style?

 were you philosophic

 pondering life all the while

*

Did your nose always

end in books

where you followed wizards

hobbits with the name of Took?

*

Would you see the world

from outer space

or march to a drum beat

always in place?

*

Over electron  microscope

did you faithfully stand

peering beneath cells

the smallest though very grand?

*

No matter the consonant

or silent vowel

the dreams you dreamed

awakened in willowed hollow

*

The life you lived

is who you’d be

time to dream again

try it you’ll see

The wordpress daily post writing prompt for today is Future’s Past.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? How close or far are you from that vision?

Well honestly I haven’t stopped dreaming yet.

Handful of Stars #poetry #photography

 sandy heart

Beautifully hung

you reach grasping for  stars

falling on your face

when your balance is displaced

you try, you must again

*

striving for the lover’s kiss

when you open your eyes

its not her face you see

but the grains of sand

you hold in your hand

*

why are dreams so hard to hold

they may lighten the soul

but for all that they promise

they will no more light on your finger

than the monarch in flight

*

diligently train your sight

celestial up you go

tumbling over and over again

to what is just out of reach

for what surprise is a handful of daisies?

No regrets, No translation #poetry #children

Open the door to the past

look just there

toward the horizon of unfulfilled dreams

can you see her

yes she was the county’s beauty queen

**

the broad young man

in  red and gold

our school’s rising star

making an unbelievable catch

what stories could be told

*

I wanted nothing more

than to save children

average unassuming doctor

where there was no translation

just a need to be helped

with pediatric medicine

*

but beauty queens get old and dye their hair

football stars break a leg

drink beer in a lazy chair

and smart kids with no money

go on any one’s coat tails

to third world countries

*

in the end did it really matter

that she dyed her hair

that he beer cans scattered

that all over the world she flew

offering hugs in languages

she barely knew

Leslie and child

Do you have regrets, something you aspired to and couldn’t do? Here’s your opportunity to write about it at the WordPress Daily Post.

eyes closing with the dawn

wakeful dreams of you

How Bad Are Your Dreams? #dark #PEN #horror

pen of the damned

try with all my will to shake

awake I’d purge the dream

blood through fingers oozed

coagulated as I’d scream

This is an excerpt from “Broken Dreams” my rather dark poem over at Pen of the Damned.  Would love to know your thoughts.

What is the Pen of the Damned you may ask:

damned
1: to condemn to a punishment or fate; especially : to condemn to hell
2a: to condemn vigorously and often irascibly for some real or fancied fault or defect <damnedthe storm for their delay>
b: to condemn as a failure by public criticism
3: to bring ruin on
4: to swear at : curse—often used to express annoyance, disgust, or surprise <damn him, he should have been careful> <I’ll be damned>
5: a group of writers sworn to their sufferings
A taste of Hell itself?
Perhaps…but also a clandestine collection of the most eclectic minds of horror.  These anguished souls have stripped free their pretenses for your grotesque delight.  The Pen of the Damned tread where you dare walk not.  Breathe what you dare dream not.  Share what you dare speak not.
You have been warned.
~We are getting ready to celebrate our one year as Pen of the Damned~
