Harvest Celebration #november #poetry #harvest

 all the machinery is oiled

 tucked away for another year

hands are chapped and stained

jeans are beyond repair

long lines of  jars

are waiting for papa

to put away

*

the air is filled with spice

and the kids are keen

tonight we bundle up

jars of corn,potatoes, and beans

 given as an offering

thrown into a  pot

we hunker down with a cup

*

tear off some bread

cross-legged on the ground

some laugh others holler

the tractor pulls around

“come on kids time for a spin”

young and old

jump on the hay hauler

*

moonlight graces the fields

smiles on the hard work

and for another year

is pleased with our effort

the bonfire no longer shy

limbs and cornstalk fuel

meeting the night starry clear

*

sparks seem to fly

dessert cooks on the end of a stick

marshmallows with chocolate the best

children’s gooey  hands they lick

we look into year-end embers

packing up our memories

&  bid “goodbye” to another harvest

bonfire

This weeks Poets United Midweek Motif celebrated the Bonfire. So whether its inspired by Guy Fawkes or a successful harvest gather round the fire.

Last year’s Harvest offering.

The Smiles You Left Behind #poetry #blogging #bloggingfriends

sandy path (3)

you stopped by to say “hi” today

I watched you as you left

a petal so fragrant

I could not soon forget

you skipped in moon dust today

fingers drew smiley faces

I wanted to retrace

your fairy foot paces

you commented on my blog today

one moment you spent

a ray of sunshine

you dropped as you went

This is to each of you who stop by for a brief moment and leave a comment. What a gift to say something that can linger as a kindness all day. You make writing these posts a joy.

My Friend the Tree #childhood #poetry #photography

those trees

Once

a friend was a tree

sometimes it was a “she”

while other times it was a “he”

I

looked up to you

and I sang to my heart’s content

you never minded all the time that we spent

Had

you a person been

you would have complained

when on your limbs I climbed and played

A

little sappy

I liked how your leaves sang

you’d tickle me as I’d swing and hang

Tall

like a mighty ship

I could spy from the highest tip

trying to keep my feet from a serious slip

Friend

 you never told secrets

I could hide when I was afraid

memories in your golden boughs I would never trade

one fall leaf

The prompt for Poet’s United Mid-week Motif is Trees.

What memories do you have as a child in the trees????

Memory’s Sandy Remnants #poetry #photography #travel

In my shoes lays a trace

little flecks of sand

carrying vibrant still

stories and songs

I miss my summer friends

In my pocket my fingers lace

reminders of a far off land

memory the fibers fill

days that lingered long

I miss my summer friends

In my heart a place

little flecks of sand

the hour glass is still

places where I’ve gone

alas the journey ends

shoes

Wishing each of you sandy memories…

Life’s Path #poetry #photography #Christmas

winter alley lights

 along life’s path

I picked up a pebble

grateful

it was not in my shoe

along life’s path

I picked up a smile

funny thing

it belonged to you!

along life’s path

I felt the dawn

warm rays

filled from within

along life’s path

I held a little hand

attached to a child

with a giggly grin

along life’s path

I stood and fell

but you were faithful

always there

along life’s path

gratitude spilled

on friends who loved

blessed  to care

one tin soldier

I wish each of you who have been in life’s path a warm and happy holiday season. May the blessings flow in 2014!!

Thank you to the talented ladys at Poets United who have provided a year of delightful inspiration. This week’s prompt was Gifts and Blessings.

Connected #poetry #photography

Like the roots of life seeking tree

the colorful threads, a tapestry

we weave and sow

our lives together grow

what the source then

is it love for ink,  joy of  pen?

does the dust from your star

mingle with mine no matter how far?

*

we weave and sow

and like friends tho far we grow

the songs we sing may different be

you may swim a different sea

your blue eyes twinkle mine do laugh

champagne bubbles in each other’s glass

a toast I raise to you to me

With our coffee cups they play

and bring endless smiles to our day

peacefully sleep in are arms

knowing we will keep them from harm
