Fill your lungs with tomorrow’s hope

close your eyes grasp at life’s soil

exhale a bouquet of gratitude

for those whose courage honorably spilled

precious offering for generations to come

Today we celebrate Memorial Day. It’s a day when children eat hotdogs, ride the ferris wheel, cast caution to the wind. It’s a day when young men choose their allegiance. It’s a day when old soldiers remember friends.

To the Future and Back Again #poetry #childhood #dpchallenge

magical book

When as a child

where did dreams with you fly?

did you ride dragons

were you a double agent spy?

*

Did the Orient Express

carry you in style?

 were you philosophic

 pondering life all the while

*

Did your nose always

end in books

where you followed wizards

hobbits with the name of Took?

*

Would you see the world

from outer space

or march to a drum beat

always in place?

*

Over electron  microscope

did you faithfully stand

peering beneath cells

the smallest though very grand?

*

No matter the consonant

or silent vowel

the dreams you dreamed

awakened in willowed hollow

*

The life you lived

is who you’d be

time to dream again

try it you’ll see

The wordpress daily post writing prompt for today is Future’s Past.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? How close or far are you from that vision?

Well honestly I haven’t stopped dreaming yet.

For Ineza #crimea #poetry #ukraine

storms end

Ineza you are now 14

somewhere between child and woman

we wished for you better things

brilliant you were so young

so close to being lost in life’s storm

the answers were so hard at six

he in prison

she buried with her Vodka

you grasped at the life-giving prism

so close to being lost in life’s storm

your home some country’s loot

once beautiful green and blue

trampled under boot

did they ever think of you?

so close to being lost in life’s storm

reach out your hand

before it’s too late

pull her toward safety

do not bring disaster as her fate

she is too close to being lost in life’s storm

Today’s prompt at Poet’s United is foresight / prescience aka a glimpse into the future. Ineza was a student of mine in Crimea. If I could have brought her to my country, I would have for she had already endured too much. I have no desire to look into her future for it too closely is united to Crimea;s fate.

Over at Carpe Diem by Kristjaan the Tarot card prompt is death. Though the card is symbolic, so much of our world goes through the cycle to get to the other side.

Belly Up To The Bar #wordpressdailypost

Three people walk into a bar…

Three people arrived at the same spot at the same time though they did not know each other nor were they familiar with the bar. Each wore a dumbfounded look and carried a slip of paper. The tall one with an unassuming smile said “well I guess we were intended to meet one another here. Why? I have no idea but maybe we can solve this riddle.”

The other two were more taken aback by their surroundings. The confident one led the way to a booth. The one who was the most tentative looked at his attire then at what the locals were wearing. He knew he was out of his element. He checked something in his hand “no service” was all it said. He also noted that the silent one was eyeing him. “Yes, your clothing need a bit of updating as does your overall look.”

“Ok I get it. You are from the past and you I take it are from the future. But what I don’t know is what do we do now?” The man from the present was now tongue tied.

Today’s Daily Post “Fill in the blank”  prompt from WordPress  is: “Three people walk into a bar…”
