Nature’s Example #100tpc #poetsforchange

fawn

dawn is playing with the color wheel

two does and their young pass

a fawn races toward flowers

nature dances its morning ritual

mothers tilt their heads

large eyes are watchful, hopeful

mesmerized am I in silence

the choir holds its breath

peace as golden rays curve the horizon

a white tail bobs to my left

lingering on a tasty morsel

none push others away

though rib cages bulge

an ear flicks, a buck crosses the road

stately he watches those ahead

worries crease not his brow

equal is the footing

a bird titters a “good morning”

the mamas follow the path

children run in circles

each move to the morning’s cadence

I awaken to a jet piercing the sky

too soon my peace is interrupted

drivers jockey for position to be first

breaks screech as metal bends

reverie is broken

Sharing with the event 100,000 Poets for Change:

For today’s online event, our choice is not to put one of the three themes—peace, sustainability, and social justice—above the others, but to recognize that all of these three necessary areas of change interrelate in complex ways.

The Rose and the Thorn #poetry

dew speckled rose

I am but a worm on this leaf

I look upon two sides of the world

she is a beauty

full of life, a treasure

fanning hope and peace

he is a devil

piercing the sky with pain

injustice and anger

are his middle name

I am but a worm on this leaf

“In matters of truth and justice, there is no difference between large and small problems, for issues concerning the treatment of people are all the same.”

Albert Einstein

“But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people.”

Psalm 22:6

The prompt for Poets United Midweek Motif is Justice or Poetic Justice. I will take poetic license and give a voice to the worm.

Justice #poetry #politics

gavel

pronounce it anyway you like

accent or not

it has been served up

as a pig’s head on a platter

indecorously

Wielded like a four letter word

between the sheets

as a man takes what is “his”

forcefully

Falls with steel-like force

in one swift move

obliterating life in its path

sharply

Is bandied about

by men who think they know

something about the law

arrogantly

Fails to meet the mark

for the common man

the one who needs it the most

discriminatingly

In days when it is needed the most, where has it flown???

The Knife’s Revenge #poetry

This is the knife’s echo to – “Deeper than her heart “

It had been a mere scratch on his hand that was made as he took the plunge

“her heart I tell you” he instructed the knife

“all of it”

The knife seemed to have its own will

It spared me

the poison of death

was forged into its steel

why I was spared I can only guess

but one year later

the innocuous cut upon his hand

a mere scratch

laid his body dead

the blade laughed a maniacal laugh

“for the one who took so much life shall be taken”

“be ground to dust empty hearted one”

I got an anonymous note

“we bled him dry. your healing is complete”

If I’m still on the road, don’t blame me it’s the dogs fault…
