Enjoy Pen of the Damned today as we have a treat for you. Each of us has written a flash fiction (100 words) based on the picture prompt (above). The words I have placed below is dark compilation.  Come over to the Pen and feast in our dark banquet hall.

The weeping was for all who, on small feet, come, hands overflowing with offerings; the dead screaming in their endless burn. They prowl the shadows, “You cannot flee, ” says a voice that is not his own.  Husks of comforting strangers fill my head with their thoughts.

“I always laugh last.”

A Gateway to the Damned #PEN #flashfiction

The knob creaked as I gave it a twist.

I’d been able to breathe last time I’d been here.

Imprisoned behind an unlocked gate of decorative iron, I watch the world carry on without me.

Shadows beckon; so soon shall I dance.

I am plummeted to the world beyond my fears.

My mind bleeds for what should have been, for the chance never to have seen you.

The rooftop glitters, wet with slime and sunlight on old stone.

Theirs is a multitude of ignored voices; immeasurable lives ending as grist to be chewed by holy teeth.

From down the hall, the words do come, and with them now, a screeching hum.

Enjoy Pen of the Damned today as we have a rare treat for you. Each of us has written a flash fiction (100 words) based on the picture prompt (above). The words I have placed here are just appetizers of each author’s work. Come over to the Pen and feast in our dark banquet hall.

Why the 4th??? #ForthofJuly

I never tire of unraveling the stars and strips on a day like today. I am reminded that I can sleep in my bed safely because I have people round the clock protecting me.  I think of  the diversity of culture: while my family will barbeques chicken another family may be making tamales, and another okra or ribs. I can enjoy my culture within a culture and welcome the beliefs and mores of my neighbor. I smile because we are celebrating becoming a country on this day…

“… Hot Dogs get your hot dogs”

Yes today is a day to celebrate freedom and like so many other american past times baseball is where I love to enjoy family time, food and the fourth of July. My team is the world champions for 2010 The San Francisco Giants.

“Play Ball!!!”

“… Sizzle, Crack, pop, whiz, B A N G”

“Honey be sure to hold those sparklers away from your body.

Dear that bottle rocket is going to… Yes that’s right. Hit the neighbor’s car.”

Sprays of blues, reds, silver green mingle to become breathtaking noise and light.

These were the times that I  enjoyed as my children covered their ears

and danced with delight.

“… Attention”

I am reminded when I heard the order that I had a duty.

It was an honor to serve my country,

my people with the hope of peace.

I waved at my fellow aviators as they flew by me going mach speeds

I am proud to be free to celebrate on a day

like the 4th of July.

I am reminded that there is a price for peace

-sometimes a rather high one

I pray that there will be no more need for men and women to die

in war.

I wish each of you a Happy Forth of July for the many reasons –

Family, food, celebration, freedom.

Drawn Together… #oneshotwednesday #poetry

My first sweep of your jawline

a shade around your nose

caught on your eyes

what happened who knows

**

I sketched until dawn

a face that I’d rendered

then why were my lips

shaking and tender

***

I peered deeper

you looked back at me

what had I done

had I set my love free?

**

To settle on a face

the one of my dreams

Oh what a fool

to believe in such schemes

**

I continued to draw

each night until dawn

nothing changed

what had gone wrong?

***

Hearing a sound

before the sun rose

a knock on the door

could it be? I don’t know

***

There you stood

rays circling your face

the man in my drawing

it was you in this place

I recently started drawing again. I have spent hours, days on a face. I imagined what it would be like to draw someone into existence ~ Voila!

Darkness All Along #oneshotwednesday

Look at me a tragic flaw

assembled by nature

as a blemish

an embarrassment

surely not meant to embrace

rather shun

***

you don’t know me

you say you do

but you don’t

not really

who does?

no one!

*

Take a closer look

look into nothing

For that is what I am

my heart an abysmal void

a web darkly spun

*

I live life alone

on my own terms

sample what you like

there is nothing worth having

 better escape, quickly, run!

*

This is my curse

a world of loveless, nothingness

drawn into dark

away from the light of hope

don’t bother there is no sun

*

But then

it is what they wanted

chosen and delivered to me

an anomaly

a freak

being no one
