Village Storm #Uganda #poetry

The sky gets black

it’s late in the day

gaps in the metal roof

 my hand holds a raindrop

a river is made in moments

stay for night to fall

or drive through the rising tide

hard choices are made everyday

each turn a potential hazard

upcountry roads change daily

humidity covers our windshield

the raindrops cover my hand

grateful to leave river road

night falls over our shelter

Ant Hill #Uganda #poetry

 hand tickles the clouds

toes clutch creases of dirt

ants raise their heads confused

how did that ant get so big?

children play hide n seek

*mono peeks around the building

footballs rush over high grass

older boys chase fun

village women pump water

Pawell never sits still

* mono = white person

Between  big pages

turn little minds

fairies of every kind

watch the spark

imagination ignites

Dragons bright and dark

animals climb trees upside down

little boys’ arms are wings

no smile becomes a frown

knights get big and golden

kings big and small

words create a kingdom

giants from clouds fall

The dragon got away before I could get his picture but he left a clue behind in his big foot prints.

Never stop dreaming or imagining. By all means never stop sharing these things with a child!!!

Miss all of you. I have a morning of so I am writing after weeks. We are enjoying amazing times to teach and tell stories to Acholi children. These village children are so bright and are catching up quickly!!
