Without A Song #music #poetry #haiku

guitar

If I could write a song for you it would go something like this:

Without fingers to stroke

without a voice to sing

these instruments stand

with little meaning

***

but there was a day

that we’d  dance

and we’d play

long into the midnight hours

***

memories alone

warm these keys

of practice and concerts

in the center we would be

***

and  there was a day

that we’d  dance

and we’d play

long into the midnight hours

****

the guitar stands aloof

the keyboard gathers dust

the flute didn’t make it

in the last minute moving rush

***

but there was a day

that we’d  dance

and we’d play

long into the midnight hours

***

someone in another land

still plays the CDs

where our band came together

in a festive jubilee

***

yes there was a day

when we would dance

and we’d play

long into the midnight hours

*******

piano practice

Endless the hours spent

For you alone I would sing

Rusty keys and voice

This week’s Poets United prompt is Melody. What melody plays in the background of your world?

A short back story: I have come to realize that the creative soul dabbles and soars in the pursuit of art. As a child, I had the hours to spend singing, writing, drawing (painting) and playing numerous instruments (at my peak 5). As an adult with children to raise, I had to relegate myself to one. Music was my soul mate and my dearest friend as I raised my family ( I did get the opportunity to travel and perform.) When the opportunities to sing subsided, I once again took up my pen and began to write and now I am drawing again. Though my voice is rusty,  I still have a song  to sing…

To the Tune of…. #dpchallenge #poetry #lyrics #imagine

yellow rose

If One Word Could Change…

this bleeding world

it would open eyes to see

beyond the stars and past the scars

 garden of sublime beauty

what a difference a word  could make

in this world it might be free

what a difference the words would be

if we thought of “you and me”

***

an angry heart

set young girls as captives free

still the troubled and confused mind

like a swift but cooling stream

what a difference a word would make

what a filling soothing  dream

what a difference a word would make

how a child’s face would beam

***

a smoking gun

give a child a rose instead

balloon is freed with hope aloft

floating above the hate and dread

what a difference a word could make

like eagles we would soar

all the songs were sung by open hearts

no need for rich or poor

***

the plots of man

muddied policies made clear

shut the gates of indecision closed

unite people there and here

what a difference a word could make

spoken by a healing tongue

what a dreamy place this world could be

for the elder and their young

The DP Writing Challenge for the week is “To the Tune of…”  Have a little fun and try your hand at writing or rewriting song lyrics.

I wrote this poem thinking of it lyrically but I really dont have music to put it to. This is a song that I would have to compose. However the song Imagine by John Lennon is the background sentiment to these lyrics.

The Empty Space in My Bed #poetry #lyrics

fingertips4059831412_e8022bb954

Its empty

where I lay my head

cold vacancy

left in our bed

where you once laid

an empty space

where there was love

there is no trace

**

memories tears

leave my cheeks wet

your  fingers in my hair

I cannot forget

the warmth of you

never to return

all my love letters

you left to burn

**

It’s empty

where I lay my head

cold vacancy

 left in our bed

where you once laid

 an empty space

where there was love

there is no trace

**

what little remains

 in what you’d written

can no longer warm me

of that I am certain

there’s no heat from us

that I can retain

sadness in these sheets

chills like  empty rain

**

It’s empty

where I lay my head

cold vacancy

 left in our bed

where you once laid

 an empty space

where there was love

there is no trace

Painful Days #lyrics #poetry #loss

water wall

Your sunshine smile

refracted in my teardrops

Your easy style

marked forever in my hands

your giving ways

emblazoned on my heartstrings

there are days

yes there are days

*

A sunshine world

was opened up before me

When you with confidence

strode into my place

A fancied world

no one could take it from me

like the unfake smile

that with your finger traced

*

Your sunshine smile

refracted in my teardrops

Your easy style

marked forever in my hands

your giving ways

emblazoned on my heartstrings

there are days

yes there are days

*

Now that you’re gone

there’s nothing called forever

the lights are out

forever in that spot

they pealed my fingers

clinging to your body

my heart was buried

with you in your plot

*

Your sunshine smile

refracted in my teardrops

Your easy style

marked forever in my hands

your giving ways

emblazoned on my heartstrings

there are days

yes there are days

*

I hear your voice

come lilting through the window

it drives me mad

the phantoms in this place

I smell you near

how could that be forgotten

I look about

of you there is no trace

*

Your sunshine smile

refracted in my teardrops

Your easy style

marked forever in my hands

your giving ways

emblazoned on my heartstrings

there are days

oh painful days
