Hand in Glove

Your glove

serving

purpose

warmth

protection

My hand

giving

working

tasks

function

The hand in the glove

each

caught

by

the other

The glove

where the hand

fits

perfectly

comfortably

The hand

fitted with  the glove

sharing warmth

filling

it with love

Together – they are one!

Desperate Run #oneshotwednesday #poetry

It was  all a bit too haunting

clouds off the Black Sea coast

an evening to remember

each thing carefully selected by our host

lulled by Russian stories

from a war long ago

enjoying new friendships

so much we wanted to know

The storm came in a fury

we dined in an elegant tent

winds were upon us

the canvas torn and rent

Our host had seen such terror

in the youth of his life

as he looked upon his dearest

I saw him fear for her life

This tent could not protect us

but where were  we to go

unto an open field

heeled legs burdensome and slow

No light to guide

except from pitch black sky

running in no direction

lightening tendrils did magnify

It Came down right before me

blasting the energy box

sparks lept before us

we thought that she was lost

Don’t ask me  all that  happened

that frightening stormy night

I fail to remember

all the horrors in our flight

A storm in a country

we didn’t call our own

we couldn’t speak the language

it certainly wasn’t home

but this I will remember

of that storm of that time

he saved us each from danger

this brave new friend of mine

When your’e hot you’re hot… #poetry #surfing #california

I’m a Cali  girl

tho my hair’s not blond

you gotta know the surf

is where I belong

We heft our boards

listenin to the beat

gotta find the wave

gotta hit the streets

See my woody there

it’s a hot ‘lil ride

plays Beach Boys tunes

sing about the tide

 we never mind

sun’s hot you know

it’s a surfin safari

hanging all ten toes

gotta love those California Girls!!!

A Tear #oneshotwednesday

I caught a tear

that fell from your eye

as I watched

it mingled with mine

*

Was it  your cheek

where it fell?

glistening sorrow

or was it mine?

*

I felt the dampness

lost in the confusion

caught in the pool

of sadness

**

An expression

of the past

what was lost

wet, speechless sadness

**

watering

the flowerbeds

we hoped

for a future

***

seeking

warming rays

lighting the way

to tomorrow’s future

Go for Broke #442nd #memorialday

You always amazed me with that sweet quiet smile
I would pull into my driveway we always talked for awhile
I loved the deep brown wrinkles that formed a content countenance
I never saw a frown as you leaned over our fence
So few of us knew the layers of the real you

A master gardener for a well known  organization was your due

Your work was written up in magazines here and nation wide
I saw those gardens – you have the perfect eye
How surprised was I to find in a simple interview
Of your marked heroism your bravery too
Your dear precious wife proudly brought out your medal
so I plied the story – you played like a fiddle
Layer by layer your story was told
relocated to Tanforan’s racetrack where horses were foaled

Your farms taken your family sent afar
I knew very little then about Manzanar
there I saw “off limits” and shame in your eyes

When that place was mentioned a place you despised

You were proud to be a Nisei son
your parents sought a better life not to be shunned
How could a nation summarily label you as the enemy?
But they did so without thinking – it was delivered shamefully
You were just 18 when you signed for the 442nd
You would have signed up to fight with any unit I reckon
Proud were you and your Japanese brothers

To fight under the American flag you had no druthers

“Go for Broke” was your cry

Many young lives for America died

Each of you shed blood for the cause

Didn’t America know it was their loss?
That limp so dear to me came with pride
to carry several fallen back to safety one lived another died
You are a hero in many eyes
You bring beauty into the world every day

The flowers your beauty always on display

But the thing I realize I see

Is a man with a rich history

And now when I see you I ponder awhile
I dwell on the heart of the man with the tanned wrinkled smile

“I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the opportunity to tell you what you have done for this country.
You fought not only the enemy, but you fought prejudice.
And you won.
You have made the Constitution stand for what it really means: the welfare of all the people, all the time.”
– President Harry S. Truman speaking to the 100th Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team, July 15, 1946

Nothing and Everything #poetry

Life ~

filled with nothing

bareness , no growth

light recedes into darkness

clouds and the wind reside here

yet always imagining

the taste of “everything”

***

Everything…

breathe it

 like the finest scent

of roses

taste it …

a rich bouquet

the finest wine

Jubilant

sunshine and laughter

love -would- be -there

*

and then …

a glimpse from a vacant room

it was Everything

scenes from my dreams

hopes in my heart

it was you

*

Laughter yet sadness

sunshine and rain

flowers and harvest

our hands

mere millimeters away

*

sadly…

whatever it was receded

as hope often does

 now my nothing

is more vacant

filled with pain

life without any possible

 replication

of you

Darkness All Along #oneshotwednesday

Look at me a tragic flaw

assembled by nature

as a blemish

an embarrassment

surely not meant to embrace

rather shun

***

you don’t know me

you say you do

but you don’t

not really

who does?

no one!

*

Take a closer look

look into nothing

For that is what I am

my heart an abysmal void

a web darkly spun

*

I live life alone

on my own terms

sample what you like

there is nothing worth having

 better escape, quickly, run!

*

This is my curse

a world of loveless, nothingness

drawn into dark

away from the light of hope

don’t bother there is no sun

*

But then

it is what they wanted

chosen and delivered to me

an anomaly

a freak

being no one

***
