The Year Dims to Sight #poetry #newyear

moving time

“I sit beside the fire and think

of all that I have seen

of meadow-flowers and butterflies

in summers that have been”  Bilbo

~JRR Tolkien Lord of the Rings~

****

I sit and ponder,  last log burns

lingering o’er fading light

few pages now left to turn

behind the year dimming to sight

I sit beside the fire and think

cherry blossoms once smiled at me

her soft cheeks rosy and pink

dawn’s fragrant dance lively and free

I sit old ink pen in hand

memory  welcomes the  strong crashing sea

frothy tides pull  from land

children’s  echo,  their peels of glee

I see Nature’s stores overflowing

golden hues blustery fingers doth turn

prepare for the chill and the blowing

brown leaves enjoy one last burn

I sit and watch twinkling tree lights

yearly celebration begun

family drawn warm and tight

the year’s work wrapped and done

I sit and ponder as last log burns

lingering o’er  fading light

the last pages have been turned

the year dims forever  to my sight

Sun’s Wisdom #nature #poetry #photography

cant catch fall

Calendar’s clock

autumn sets nature’s pace

I can’t catch her

end of the tunnel

Frenzied is my pace

am I going the right way

sunrise perspective

warmth of dawn

Sun sheds light

collecting shells for answers

tide caresses day

The prompt this week at Poets United is “Energy/ Vitality.”

“Pointing to another world will never stop vice among us; shedding light over this world can alone help us.”
Walt Whitman

Where do you get your energy from? I get mine from the sun (especially at the ocean.) It’s that calming energy that gives perspective rather than that rush about flailing for answers.

Traversing Autumn’s Path #poetry #photography #loss

Her hands clasped to mine

we walked along autumn’s path

crunching beneath our feet

the remnants of yesterday’s glory

she picked up a leaf

what I thought was dew was a tear

“why do you cry, my love?”

my eyes thoughtful

“life is perishing beneath our feet

we are crushing aged spring

we walk the burial ground of the seasons”

“press this amber leaf against your heart

feel its resonating warmth

hear him tell you his story

let it be a reminder of the past

then welcome the new season

a time for ends and reflection

reach your hands to grasp the snowflakes

purity falls over barren trees

and spring returns to remind us

of that which we have lost

and of that which we might gain”

“another year of this loss?”

I saw her eyes pool

“I don’t think I can bare it”

“but another year of promise as well

life, love and new beginnings

those too will grow in the coming year

one day we will look back

the skeletons beneath our feet

will not sound like death with each step

I will once again look up

and see life blossoming in your eyes”

This week marks the second anniversary of the death of a child in our neighborhood  who was tragically swept away by a flash flood The lights represent candles and sentiments that lined the family’s driveway last year. Blue ribbons hang, year round, on our trees, sign posts and mailboxes in memory of this loss..

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – The Forest #photography

wood dragon

You may think you can see my world that the wood dragon guards

winter woods

but you cannot know of the beast who stalks in its cold

blue dawn photo rendering

your eye distracted by blue horizons at dawn

vibrant fall

colors captivate you and you fail to hear the distant snarls

Ripples of Life

already mesmirized in the reflection of the lady’s wooded pool

amber glow

you fail to see the true light

Winter’s Song #poetry #haiku #photography

winters song

A day long ago

I tried my hand at playing

spring’s joyous heart’s strings

***

I played you strong

Celebrating Summer’s Eve

Note’s warmed in moonlight

**

I heard a soft wail

Cry to Fall’s frigid day’s end

awaiting a song

***

None left to hear you

Winter’s cold leaves empty score

Notes held fast in ice
