“Be Mine” writing-challenge-valentine #poetry #valentine’sday

valentine

What if he should read

the words I wrote 100 years from now

of knights and dragons

and hidden away princesses

would he think it mere fantasy?

*

I write faithfully with my pen

of dark misty hollows

places to be lost

corners to be found

hoping dreams never to end

*

can ideas inscribed in ink

compare to blue moon lit dances

long hair billowing

in salty air’s breeze

as spicy music romances

*

soft lacy valentine bouquet

encircles my heart

a smile is your only answer

to “be mine”

the place where fantasy starts

The Day They Packed My Computer #fiction #challenge

Today they moved the last of my belongings to somewhere. No one would tell me. My family thinks because I am “old” that those things no longer matter or that I will forget about them like I forgot the grocer’s name (last week).

I watched someone fumble with the box containing my type written drafts, hand drawn story boards, and copies of every last radio script.  A tear fell to the ground; no one heard it except Font, my spaniel. My faithful Dell which replaced my IBM Selectric years ago was in another box bound for the place where computers go instead of heaven.

“Don’t worry mom everything is on thumb drives.”

“For what?” I wanted to yell under my carefully tucked afghan. “Can I access my work with my thumb, perhaps my teeth?”

My bony fingers were itching to take one more sweep across the keyboard.

My daughter was dripping with sincerity, “We have you enrolled in a number of classes at the retirement community.”

I can’t tell you how many times over the years I have heard ,”Those who can’t  do… Teach.”

I smiled to myself knowing that I was teaching a number of those classes.

Little do they know that my archived work is auto loaded on my blog. Should be good for hmmm about 5 years. I can still, after all, operate the “Like” button.

Just another Script #flashfiction

It was midnight

It had to be a moonless night or the story wouldn’t work.

There was a screeching noise in the darkness

“what is making that sound?” she shivered

“It’s just me” she heard the cold clammy hand slap on her back.

“That’s good” she smiled “I love it when my scripts come together. Who’s that???”

Ode To a Writer #oneshotwednesday

Ode to the Writer

You’ve seen me in print
Reading parts of my type
Thinking my words
reflect what I am like
*
points misread
lies between the lines
mere complications
Space and time
***
you’ve read into words
sometimes that will be
When you misunderstand
What you think you see
***
please realize
I’m not who you believe
You never really saw
The unknown person – me

*

*

I wrote this weeks ago for a site that was doing a feature of me on a VLOG. It was fun as the writer in the poem was just a person. Today I spoke with a co-author/ dear friend. We  had big dreams and lived some. She helped start and I wrote for a small international radio station ( still operating). We wrote several books (  paid for  printing); they have been distributed  all over the world. You may know who I am today – but who I will become and where I was before there ever was Moondustwriter – well hmmm we shall see.

We are into week 54 of One Shot Wednesday having just celebrated a year of being.

Please join us and take some time to read fantastic poetry.

Nanowrimo and me (Flash Fiction in 160)

What do you do with 30 days, 50,000 words, little sleep, insanity, and a computer?

Follow me & other Nanowrimo novelists (wannabes) as we attempt the impossible.

****

If you want to follow my efforts during the month of November, check in to my writing sight. I will be posting bits and pieces of my novel and probably my failings as a writer over the month.

Thanks to Monkey Man for graciously hosting this site each Sunday. Happy Halloween everyone!

I loved a girl

I loved a girl

She wasn’t pretty or fair

I’m not even sure

of the color of her hair

***

I read her on paper

that’s where I would see

a portrait of words

quietly enfolding me

***

A journey of sorts

is where we would go

nowhere had limits

places high- places low

***

I loved her because

she opened my eyes

to a world without speaking

no barriers- no lies

***

We never got closer

than Jupiter and Mars

but the fire in her eyes

drew my heart to the stars

Dickens – ya’ Digg?

What would writers of old do with this new technology?

What would Victor Hugo have thought of Twitter? Would he be following 10,000 by now or would he say “the ____ with those bird people.”

One of my favorite writers is Dickens. What the Dickens would he do with Tumbler other than to mix a drink? His sole use for Digg[ing] would be burying a character.

I’m certain Tolkien studied webs to get  Shelob’s lair just right. Would he take time to study – or surf the Web?

George MacDonald, a pastoral writer in the 18th century, would not understand how to write about clouds today. His clouds traversed the heather hills of Scotland.

What are today’s  writers  to do?

As a writer I ‘m told get yourself out there, become a social media maniac. I used to be a nocturnal writer now I’m a nocturnal tweeter.

Remember when windows were something you opened to let a soft breeze into your room? And a posterous would be a misspelling of something following you.

What about when you told your significant other I need “my space.” “Well honey go right ahead the computer is all yours.”

I guess a Facebook would have been one of those picture books you could stick your face or your kid’s face in.

I was talking to Derek Haines (who always manages to get named in my blogs) ; we were talking about a joint effort – in the 60s you know where that would have gone.

Do you know I am forgetting how to spell. I spell:  “great” – Gr8 ; “by the way” – BTW; ” lost in the fog” – LITF!

I’m a stickler for correct spelling but soon  my goldfish will have better spelling than me.

If I’m going to digress, I might as well share my favorite – Delicious. We used to go to the ice cream parlor get the works with gobs of stuff on top and that was delicious! How can something you can’t taste be delicious? Though some may have learned to transcend space and time and slip into a cyber world with delicious stuff – I haven’t learned that trick.

Can someone  please tell me how I can get out my window into the~ “real time?”
